Magnesium: useful for some people, not a cure-all
Magnesium shows up in every wellness ad right now. Some people feel a difference with glycinate at night. Plenty of people feel nothing. Food still comes first: pumpkin seeds, beans, leafy greens, plain yogurt.
People with kidney disease, and anyone on several prescriptions, should ask a doctor or pharmacist before starting a supplement. More is not better.
Common forms, plain English
- Glycinate — often used in the evening; usually easier on the stomach.
- Citrate — more likely to loosen stools. That can be the point, or a problem.
- Oxide — cheap, poorly absorbed for most goals.
